Overview
The Boise Mountains run the gamut from gentle and rolling, to rocky and vertical. These mountains are known to locals as the Boise foothills and are sometimes described as the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
The highest point in the Boise Mountains isTwo Point Mountain, which reaches a height of 10,124 feet. The Boise Mountains are hot and dry. Winters are relatively short, due to their low elevation and southern location. The Boise River's South, Middle and North forks drain most of the range.
Location & Information
Most of the metropolitan area of Boise and the surrounding suburbs rest on a broad, relatively flat plain, descending to the west. The Boise Mountains rise up to the northeast, stretching from the far southeastern tip of the Boise city limits to nearby Eagle.

The city of Boise has made a large effort to preserve much of the area's natural resources by creating an impressive trail system winding throughout its foothills. For hikers, bikers, and certain motorized vehicles this provides easy and plentiful access to over 85 miles of great trails with views of Boise City and the surrounding mountains. The varying terrain is great for people of all activity levels.
Mountain bikers can challenge themselves on narrow single-track, while the whole family can enjoy a moderate hike. Simply check out a map of the trails to find one best suited to your recreational needs.
For a more remote trip, there is Lucky Peak located just Northeast of Boise, which offers great hiking, camping, and views of the Sawtooth Mountain Range.
Skiing/SnowBoarding
For winter recreation, Bogus Basin Mountain Resort is located just 16 miles from Boise City limits. Bogus Basin is perfect for skiers and boarders, and even boasts 37km of Nordic trails.
Rock Climbing
Tablerock and the cliffs below Lucky Peak Dam are two wonderful rock climbing areas within 10 minutes of downtown.
