Overview
You can get to Sun Valley, Idaho through the gateway cities of Salt Lake City, Utah; Boise, Idaho; Twin Falls, Idaho; Seattle, Washington; and Los Angeles or Oakland, California. From these cities, you can take either Horizon Air or SkyWest to hop on into the area. If you would rather not fly, you can travel by bus, drive your own car from wherever you might live, or rent a car at one of the gateway communities.
Driving
Sun Valley is located just off of Highway 75 in Central Idaho.
- From Salt Lake City
Travel north on Interstate 15 to the junction with Interstate 84. Continue north on Interstate 84 west toward Boise, Idaho. At Exit 173 head north toward Sun Valley on Highway 93/75. The entire trip will take about 5 hours.
- From Boise
Travel south on Interstate 84 to Mountain Home – a distance of approximately 40 miles. Take Exit 95 and head east on Highway 20. Travel approximately 80 miles and then turn north at the Junction with Highway 75. Travel another 26 miles to Sun Valley. The trip will take you nearly 3 hours.
- From Idaho Falls
Travel west on Highway 20 to the Junction with Highway 20/26/93, a distance of 64 miles. Turn left onto Highway 20/26/93 and continue for another 50 miles. Turn right onto Highway 75 and proceed north to Sun Valley. The trip from Idaho Falls to Sun Valley will take about 3 hours.
- From Twin Falls
Travel north on Highway 93 to the small town of Shoshone, Idaho. At Shoshone, the highway becomes Highway 75. The total distance is 84 miles. This trip will take about 2 hours.
Commercial airlines serve the following airports near Sun Valley all year:
- Hailey, Idaho - Friedman Memorial Airport is located in the city of Hailey, approximately 14 miles south of the Resort. SkyWest Airlines service is provided through Delta Airlines provides travel to and from Salt Lake City. Horizon Airlines provides direct service to Seattle/Tacoma and to Los Angeles.
- Twin Falls, Idaho - Joslin Field is located 2 miles south of Twin Falls. Twin Falls is located 82 mile south of Sun Valley at the southern end of Highway 75. Delta Airlines through their partner, SkyWest offers direct round trip flights to Salt Lake City. Allegiant Air provides round trip service to Las Vegas.
- Idaho Falls, Idaho – Fanning Field is located 154 miles southeast of Sun Valley. Airlines supplying service to and from Fanning Field include Allegiant, Delta, Horizon and United.
- Boise, Idaho – Boise Regional Airport is located 154 miles southwest of Sun Valley. Airlines supplying service to and from Fanning Field include Southwest, Delta, Horizon, Frontier and United.
If you prefer the independence of driving yourself, you can obtain a rental car at any of the gateway cities or in the Wood River Valley.
Once there, you will discover that Sun Valley is a "walking village" where you do not need an automobile. Lodging is located within walking distance of other services, but you can also take the complimentary bus service. The Resort also runs a continuous round-trip service between Sun Valley Village and the ski mountains.
